Terracopia is run by a software architect of twenty-plus years who is also a practicing Advanced EMT, a ski patroller at two mountains and assistant patrol director at one, a snowcat operator, and a trained planning team manager with a FEMA Urban Search & Rescue task force.

That shapes the engineering. Connectivity is assumed to fail rather than treated as an exception. Interfaces are designed for gloved hands, bad light, and someone who is already busy. The questions asked in design review are the ones that actually come up at 2am — what happens when the link drops mid-shift, who notices when a node goes quiet, and what the person on the other end is supposed to do about it.

Field maintainability gets treated as a first-class requirement, because the twentieth week of a deployment is where these systems usually fail.
